I. List of Medical billing supervisor duties:

  1. Oversee the following areas: Billing, Coding, Front Desk, Payment Posting and follow up as needed.
  2. Write and maintain process documentation which clearly instructs team members on procedures for billing, payment posting, and follow up.
  3. Organize and lead weekly meetings to review performance metrics which include productivity and backlogs for charges, payments, denials, follow up, batching, claim editing. Maintain minutes and track action items with estimate completion dates and responsible party for each.
  4. Accomplish organization goal by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different request; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  5. Review random samples of work being done to check quality of the work. Create and distribute QA reports to management.
  6. Meets department standards by contributing information to strategic plans, meets production, productivity, quality, and customer service standards, resolving problems, and identifying system improvements.
  7. Identify variances and implement corrective actions.
  8. Conduct Analysis of denial and AR to identify variances from expected collections. Implement corrective actions to prevent denials and maximize reimbursement of claims.
  9. Decrease the days in AR to the minimum obtainable number
  10. Review all appeals created by the offsite team prior to mailing and send feedback as needed to maximize effectiveness.
  11. Maintain the AR as low as possible by promoting collection of payable claims as quickly as possible.
  12. Handle any credentialing requirements from a client or re-credentialing from an insurance.
  13. Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential and complying with all HIPAA standards.
  14. Reviewing all claims for compliance and completeness for claim submissions.
  15. Reviewing daily billing edit reports for electronic claims.
  16. Ensuring claims are submitted timely.

II. List of Medical billing supervisor qualifications

  1. Candidates must also have knowledge of HCFA 1500, UB 92, ICD9 and CPT coding.
  2. High School Diploma
  3. At least 1 year experience in medical billing experience
  4. Possess quick and accurate Alpha/numeric data entry skills.
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and Web-enabled applications
  6. Understand the requirements of Medicaid, Medicare and Private Insurance billing.

III. Tips to write job description

1. Too-long job description:

Looking at a too-long job description can frighten the candidates off and drive the away. A job description, no matter how important the job is, should not be included in more than 3 pages. If one focuses on too many things at a time, he shall definitely lose focus on the main items and get overwhelmed by the remaining; So, keep it concisely.

2. Too-short job description:

While too-long can be a problem, too-short is more a problem. It will ruin the meaning of the job description. A too-short one means it lacks necessary details and therefore, the candidate will not be able to understand while reading it.

3. Listing unnecessary functions or job duties:

Just classifying these into the “others” category will save you a lot of effort and space. On the other hand, the job description will become more dilute and easy to be neglected.

4. Key functions

Not listing key functions as required for the job can be a fatal mistake to a job description.

5. Grammar and spelling

Poor grammar and having spelling errors can ruin the job description, too. Never think that as you are the employer, you may have the right to make grammar or spelling errors while requires other not to. A job description with such errors is easily to be mistaken as a fake or ghost ads; as a result, the candidate will turn away from it.

6. Not specific enough:

10. Not updating the job description:

The same job may require different duties and responsibilities in different times, so, you cannot use the same job description for 2 different times.
