I. List of Railroad General Manager  duties:

  1. Full responsibility and oversight of the 24/7 crude oil terminal operations with SAFETY and ENVIRONMENT being the highest priorities next to financial stewardship.
  2. Manage, direct, and provide insight and follow up to staff of supervisors and team members.
  3. Manage supervisors to set expectations, lead, train and develop all team members through the Management Process.
  4. Manage and ensure customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
  5. Participate in customer meetings to build positive relationships.
  6. Responsible for railroad and terminal financials, budgeting and forecasting.
  7. Accountable for asset utilization. This will entail routine evaluation of requirements, capital improvement projects to maximize efficiency. Excess assets and facilities will be offered as a revenue source.
  8. Accountable for the development, approval, and periodic review of operating procedures for all railroad and terminal activities. This area will include all technical, operational, and support functions.
  9. Maintain and develop safety culture among all Team Members.
  10. Participate in and promote regional and/or corporate initiatives.
  11. Ensure that Team Members receive the proper training to perform their jobs.
  12. Routine interface with accounting, maintenance, engineering and other support teams.
  13. Routine communication and coordination with other corporate departments.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Bachelor s Degree or equivalent industry experience.
  2. Knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; inventory software; internet software and order processing systems.
  3. Extensive background in crude oil, terminals, and railroad.
  4. Strong Organizational and leadership skills for a multifaceted work environment.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication.
  6. Detail oriented and customer focused.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot operational problems.
  8. Familiar with applicable Federal, State and Local regulatory agency requirements for handling, storage and transportation of crude oil products.
  9. Must possess a valid driver s license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers.
III. Tips to write job description

1. Too-long job description:

Looking at a too-long job description can frighten the candidates off and drive the away. A job description, no matter how important the job is, should not be included in more than 3 pages. If one focuses on too many things at a time, he shall definitely lose focus on the main items and get overwhelmed by the remaining; So, keep it concisely.

2. Too-short job description:

5. Grammar and spelling

Poor grammar and having spelling errors can ruin the job description, too. Never think that as you are the employer, you may have the right to make grammar or spelling errors while requires other not to. 6. Not specific enough:

8. Using buzzwords or abbreviations:

9. Using slang or legal words:

Just use common wording to communicate with others and don’t do anything extraordinarily.

10. Not updating the job description:

The same job may require different duties and responsibilities in different times, so, you cannot use the same job description for 2 different times.
