I. List of Training supervisor duties:

  1. Manages and directs the work of customer contact personnel during the new hire training period, including ensuring compliance with performance standards, time and attendance policies and company policies and procedures
  2. Conducts new hire, technical, and product training for all customer contact personnel (e.g.. Safety, Ladder Handling, Installation Basics, etc.)
  3. Delivers advanced technical training programs, Supervisor Training, new products and procedures, Business Services, etc.
  4. Trains and motivates technical employees utilizing a hands-on approach in classroom and non-classroom training settings
  5. Evaluates individual progress in meeting training standards and determines if an individual is ready to advance or whether additional training is needed
  6. Schedules individuals for training programs and monitors employee training levels
  7. Develops and implements activities to evaluate effectiveness of training and development programs
  8. Provides documentation for employees who lack minimum requirements for achieving the basic training skills for advancement
  9. Designs, produces and maintains training and reference materials as needed
  10. Assists in the development of future training programs
  11. Conducts post training skills assessments to determine training needs and employee effectiveness and competency
  12. Stays current on internal work processes, policies and procedures
  13. Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures related to safety, technical operations, and customer service philosophies
  14. Maintains appropriate levels of Technical Certification above the levels of anticipated trainees
  15. Travels to a variety of locations to deliver training as needed
  16. Consults with supervisors, managers, directors and VPs to determine effectiveness of training programs and make recommended changes.

II. List of Training supervisor qualifications

  1. History of course planning / evaluation, monitoring and feedback
  2. Ability to travel up to 75% of time to locations within the MasTec AT footprint
  3. Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  4. Demonstrated presentation/speaking skills
  5. Able to supervise others, including managing attendance and performance during training programs
  6. Ability to generate rapport/interest while also dealing with difficult students
  7. Ability to deliver training appropriate for various adult learning styles
  8. Demonstrates intermediate computer/software skills including Microsoft Office products such as Microsoft PowerPoint. Excel, Outlook, Word
  9. Must be able to demonstrate competency in installation and repair procedures of appropriate systems.
  10. Must be able to demonstrate competency in ladder handling and basic safety procedures
  11. Ability to climb ladders, and other structures
  12. Able to lift and carry loads of at least 80 lbs.
  13. Able to work within the limitations and confines of anbucket truck, attic, crawl space and/or on a ladder
  14. Associates Degree or or equivalent combination of education and skill required
  15. Appropriate Trainer Certification within 30 days
  16. 1 year - Mastec AT operational experience preferred
  17. 1 year - alarm industry experience preferred

III. Tips to write job description

1. Too-long job description:

Looking at a too-long job description can frighten the candidates off and drive the away. A job description, no matter how important the job is, should not be included in more than 3 pages. If one focuses on too many things at a time, he shall definitely lose focus on the main items and get overwhelmed by the remaining; So, keep it concisely.

2. Too-short job description:

While too-long can be a problem, too-short is more a problem. It will ruin the meaning of the job description. A too-short one means it lacks necessary details and therefore, the candidate will not be able to understand while reading it.

3. Listing unnecessary functions or job duties:

Just classifying these into the “others” category will save you a lot of effort and space. On the other hand, the job description will become more dilute and easy to be neglected.

4. Key functions

Not listing key functions as required for the job can be a fatal mistake to a job description.

5. Grammar and spelling

Poor grammar and having spelling errors can ruin the job description, too. Never think that as you are the employer, you may have the right to make grammar or spelling errors while requires other not to. A job description with such errors is easily to be mistaken as a fake or ghost ads; as a result, the candidate will turn away from it.

6. Not specific enough:

Be specific and concise; if you don’t address the specific, then what the job description is for. It is for the candidate to understand just exactly what he needs to do or needs to have. Lacking details can confuse the candidates very well.

7. Not having the job description reviewed by others:

This is also a common mistake. One may be subject to bias, but more than one, especially with the help of those external advisor, the job description can be more perfect.

8. Using buzzwords or abbreviations:

In fact, it is not necessary at all to use such in a job description.

9. Using slang or legal words:

Just use common wording to communicate with others and don’t do anything extraordinarily.

10. Not updating the job description:

The same job may require different duties and responsibilities in different times, so, you cannot use the same job description for 2 different times.
